The Kim Myong Whai Award is established to recognize his remarkable contributions to the enhancement and internationalization of Korean studies.
Dr. Kim was a long time faculty member at Yonsei University and former Korean International Political Science Association President (1962~64) and Honorary
President (1998~2009). He founded the Institute of Korean Studies in 1968 and served as the publisher of Korea Observer until he passed away in 2009.
The prize will be awarded annually to the most outstanding paper published in Korea Observer, thus encouraging and rewarding contributions of the highest quality.
The recipient of the award receives a certificate and a prize of USD 2,500.
